The Story of Evans Family Sauces

The story of Evans Family Sauces didn't begin in a boardroom; it began in a home kitchen back in 2013. It started with a pack of discount lamb chops, some plums, and—in the interest of total honesty—a questionable amount of adult beverages. What started as a late-night creative experiment by the founder, Jason, quickly turned into a local phenomenon.

That same year, the family entered a local BBQ competition on a whim. Against seasoned competitors, the results were undeniable:

  • Plum Crazy BBQ Sauce took 2nd Place Overall.
  • Sweet & Spicy followed closely, securing 3rd Place Overall.

While the 2013 wins proved they had something special, life happened, and the team wasn't ready to go all in just yet. However, the smoke didn't stop clearing. Over the next few years, after entering a few more BBQ competitions and racking up more wins, it became impossible to ignore: we were definitely onto something.

By 2017, things finally appeared to line up. The family was ready to take the leap, but the journey hit a massive roadblock. A nightmare situation with a co-packer and packaging safety issues forced them to pull all products from local grocery store shelves. It was a hit that cost thousands of dollars, and for a while, hope was lost.

But even as we counted our losses, the "minor cult following" for the sauces only grew. The demand never stopped—people were still sending videos of themselves drinking the sauce straight from the bottle. We knew the potential was there; we just had to be patient.

A trade show in 2024 proved that the interest had never left. The demand was still there, louder than ever. We decided to wait for the perfect moment in 2026, and now, we are officially ready to take over the BBQ sauce world. Today, Jason, along with his brothers Allen and Steve, continue to collaborate on every new recipe, blending Jason’s culinary school training with the family's shared passion for bold, award-winning flavors.

The Legend of Plum Crazy

While many brands are content with a ribbon, the Evans family spent years obsessively refining the sauce that started it all. They have finally perfected the Plum Crazy recipe to the point that it has developed a cult-like following. From New York to LA, fans have been sending in video submissions of themselves drinking the sauce straight from the bottle—the ultimate testament to a flavor that truly stands alone.

Meet the Quality Control: Gunner

Every great BBQ team needs a mascot, and at Evans Family Sauces, that role belongs to Gunner, the family’s three-year-old Rottweiler. Gunner is the inspiration behind one of the most anticipated upcoming releases: Rottie’s Rib Rub.
